IN NATURA.
A FINNISH TRILOGY.

Janne Lehtinen, Jorma Puranen, Ilkka Halso

January 31, 2008 - April 12, 2008

Open Tuesday through Saturday
11 am – 7 pm

Photology presents "In Natura. A Finnish Trilogy", an artistic journey through finnish photography art.

The nature is here shown both as a stage for human experience and as an instrumental place.

Indeed, Lehtinen, Puranen and Halso feature landscapes as a way of research of their own languages, and they combine them with a distinctive artistic sign.

Janne Lehtinen shows the serie "Sacred Bird", where we can admire the strange but also attractive flying attempt.

Jorma Puranen feature his "Icy Prospects", a serie where he combines his visionary and pictorial experiences through a poetic nature reflex.

Finally Ilkka Halso introduces the topic of nature conservation, and he suggests a scientific way of preservation in his works "Restoration".

On the occasion of the exhibition “Claudio Abate. Installation & Performance Art”, latest pubblication by Photology. A detailed catalogue featuring the complete production by Claudio Abate, with an essay by Achille Bonito Oliva.

“…I’d like to come back to the often-quoted scene of the Trevi Fountain from La dolce vita (which is also the cover of this publication) to introduce some anecdotes and reflections on Pierluigi Praturlon. It was he who told me how the scene was born and how Fellini included it in the screenplay of his film…”

“…This episode alone is enough to tell us how Praturlon was the flesh and blood of Italian cinema in those years. In the thousands of photographs he took during his long career we meet many of the titles and faces I’ve mentioned… “

“…But the stars in Praturlon’s photos are not only the ones who interacted with the Italian cinema. There is a whole eminently American side to Pierluigi’s career, as can be seen from his shots of Frank Sinatra in his dressing room in Las Vegas, or Marilyn Monroe’s portrait shortly before she died, or the images of American sets, such as The Sons of Katie Helder(1965) by Henry Hathaway or Two for the Road(1967) by Stanley… “

“…Thanks to Pierluigi’s photos this book turns into a nostalgic album of my youth and of the cinema of those years. A cinema Pierluigi lived with all his heart, establishing a truly special relationship with us actors. After a photo session he would always ask me to choose the images before they were published, what a Gentleman! He was one of the few who could speak three or four languages and solve every problem personally. Looking at Pierluigi Praturlon’s photos and reflecting upon them is like a revival of a glorious and irrecoverable time, to which I cannot but look back with a touch of pride and regret ...”
