ART FILM FESTIVAL: Documentaries on contemporary art by Pappi Corsicato

“Documentaries on Contemporary Art” offers a selection of documentaries on contemporary art made by the Italian director Pappi Corsicato. In line with the location, the series of films will start with the famous documentary Pompeii Eternal Emotion, made in 2015 to enhance the charm and the importance of the “ruins”,that received many awards all over the world.The evenings will continue with a series of shorts and feature-length films on the lives of important contemporary artists, such as Luciano Fabro, Rebecca Horn, Anish Kapoor, Jannis Kounellis, Sol Lewitt, Mario Merz, Luigi Ontani, Mimmo Paladino, Julian Schnabel, Richard Serra, Ettore Spalletti, Armando Testa.

Pasquale “Pappi” Corsicato (Naples, 1960) is a famous Italian director. After studying dance, choreography and acting in New York, he came back to Italy, where he met Elvio Porta and Pedro Almodovar and thanks to them he made his debut in the world of cinema. His most successful films are: I buchi neri (Black Holes, 1995), I Vesuviani (The Vesuvians – Iana’s Descendants, 1997), Chimera (Chimera, 2001), Il seme della discordia (The Seed of Discord, 2008), Il volto di un’altra (The Face of Another, 2012).
Since 1994 he has directed over 40 video-documentaries on contemporary art and artists, including Richard Serra, Jeff Koons, Robert Rauschenberg, Jannis Kounellis, Anish Kapoor, and Gilbert & George; some of them were hosted by important centres, such as the Tate Modern in London, the Center Pompidou in Paris and other prestigious national and international museums and festivals. In 2017, he filmed the documentary on the life of the artist and friend Julian Schnabel, L’arte viva di Julian Schnabel (Julian Schnabel, A Private Portrait, 2017), released internationally on 12 and 13 December.
