Land Art in America

Il pianeta terra fotografato negli anni Sessanta durante le missioni spaziali Apollo, ha ispirato gli artisti di avanguardia protagonisti della mostra Land Art in America, un progetto fotografico di Gianfranco Gorgoni.
Walter De Maria, Michael Heizer, Nancy Holt, Robert Smithson e più tardi Christo con Jeanne Claude e Ugo Rondinone, prendono alla lettera il messaggio ultraterreno “the world is yours”, rappresentato a Photology AIR dall’installazione di Georg Reinking. Questo gruppo di giovani artisti abbandona gli spazi limitati di una normale galleria metropolitana avventurandosi in progetti monumentali nei “great outdoors” americani. Coraggiosa, necessaria e unica, la documentazione di quegli anni realizzata dal fotoartista italiano Gianfranco Gorgoni. Il suo progetto di allestimento all’interno degli spazi en plein air dell’antico convento, prevede opere fotografiche di grande formato stampate su alluminio con speciali trattamenti da esterno.
Gianfranco Gorgoni trasferitosi a New York negli anni Sessanta, diviene collaboratore de L’Espresso e incontra Leo Castelli, il quale lo metterà in contatto con tutti gli artisti della sua galleria tra cui Warhol, Rauschenberg, Johns, Lichtenstein, Basquiat, Chamberlain. Al Max Kansas City ha modo di conoscere Smithson, Heizer e De Maria, con i quali inizierà il suo progetto sulla nuova avanguardia che lo porterà poi nel deserto americano per fotografare le opere grandi di Land Art.
